The traditional white LED fixtures used for standard supplemental illumination of an operating room create issues that interfere with the surgeon’s view of the patient and the ability of surgical staff to perform their tasks.

During minimally invasive procedures, surgeons turn off general lighting to have the clearest view of the screens they use, forcing surgical support staff to work in the dark.

During open surgeries, the vision of the surgeon is disrupted by afterimage, light adaptation delay, and eye fatigue as they toggle between looking at the surgical field and screens on the perimeter of the room.
